How UCAT ANZ scores work
The UCAT ANZ has three cognitive subtests โ Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning โ plus Situational Judgement. Each cognitive subtest is converted from the number of questions you answered correctly into a scaled score from 300 to 900. Scaling lets results be compared fairly even though candidates see different versions of the test.
Your total cognitive score is the sum of the three, from 900 to 2700. Situational Judgement is reported separately and is not part of that total. Abstract Reasoning was removed from 2025, so totals from earlier years (out of 3600) cannot be compared with today's scores.
UCAT ANZ 2025 deciles
A decile tells you the score below which a given share of candidates fell. For example, the 9th decile is the score that 90% of candidates scored below โ so reaching it puts you in the top 10%.
| Decile | Percentile | Total score (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 10th | 1610 |
| 2nd | 20th | 1710 |
| 3rd | 30th | 1780 |
| 4th | 40th | 1850 |
| 5th | 50th | 1930 |
| 6th | 60th | 2000 |
| 7th | 70th | 2090 |
| 8th | 80th | 2190 |
| 9th | 90th | 2310 |

What is a good UCAT ANZ score?
There is no pass mark. Universities rank applicants against each other, so a "good" score is one that is competitive for the courses you apply to in your year. Medicine is the most competitive: applicants commonly aim for the top 10โ20% of candidates. Dentistry and other health courses can be a little less competitive, but this varies.
Just as important is how a university uses the score:
- As a threshold or shortlist: UCAT ANZ decides who is invited to interview, then other criteria take over.
- As part of the final ranking: UCAT ANZ is weighted together with ATAR and the interview.
- As a tie-breaker: some universities use Situational Judgement only to separate applicants with the same total.
Because these rules change from year to year, always confirm them on each university's admissions page before you apply.

Frequently asked questions
What is the highest possible UCAT ANZ score?
Each of the three cognitive subtests โ Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning โ is scored from 300 to 900, so the total ranges from 900 to 2700. Situational Judgement is reported separately and is not added to the total.
Why can't I compare my score with older UCAT scores?
Abstract Reasoning was removed from 2025, so totals before 2025 were out of 3600 across four subtests. A pre-2025 total is not comparable with a total out of 2700. Compare yourself only with candidates who sat the same version of the test.
What counts as a good UCAT ANZ score?
It depends on the university and the year, because universities rank applicants against each other rather than against a fixed pass mark. As a rule of thumb, competitive applicants for medicine often aim for the top 10โ20% of candidates. Use the decile table on this page to see what that meant in the latest year.
Can I reuse my UCAT ANZ result next year?
No. UCAT ANZ results are only valid for the following year's entry, so you need to sit the test again if you reapply.
Is the percentile from this calculator official?
No โ it is an estimate made by drawing straight lines between the official deciles. Your official percentile is on your UCAT ANZ score report.
